The go-head has been given for a new £3m development of 14 industrial units for SMEs in the north east.
Commercial property developer Priority Space is behind the new-build at Villa Real’s Number One industrial estate in Consett.
This busy business district is midway between Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne, both within a half hour’s drive. The new development, on a 1.75 acre plot of land, will deliver 22,250 sq ft of workspace divided across 14 commercial units between 1,250 and 2,000 sq ft in size.
Lee Buchanan, director at Priority Space, said: “Consett is much more than a commuter town between Newcastle and Durham. Its steelworks may be long gone, but it holds its own in the North East’s industrial and commercial landscape and is home to many successful SMEs working in manufacture, construction and distribution.
“Our aim is to provide well-designed, high-spec units for emerging and expanding businesses. We know there is demand for units of this size in the area and look forward to the development supporting the North East’s economic growth and regeneration.”
Construction is due to start late 2021 with completion due for summer 2022. All units will be for sale or lease and enquiries are being handled by Richard Scott at Savills and Jonathan Simpson CPNE.
The Number One Industrial Estate is close to Consett town centre and has good access to the wider region with trunk road links the A1(M).
Consett is also home to Erwin Hymer Group UK, a leading manufacturer of caravans, motorhomes and camper vans and to national sandwiches and convenience food producer Greencore.
South Yorkshire-based Priority Space is committed to developing sites across the UK to create high-quality and sustainable workplaces which stimulate regeneration and economic growth.
